Santa is the big man for the kiddies on Christmas Eve, but for the bass angling community our jolly old elf looks slightly different. No white beard or egg nog belly. Nope, ours is Zona Claus aka Mark Zona host of Zona's Awesome Fishing Show and co-host of The Bassmasters.
This season, Zona Claus is sharing his thoughts on the three gifts all bass anglers should have under their trees this year.

"First off for this season, I'm going to share the MVP's for me," said Zona. "These are the products that were absolute tops to get the job done. They will all sound like shameless plugs, and essentially they are. However, they all really came through in 2013 and any bass angler out there should get some."
"I fished a ton with the Shimano Metanium XG this year," said Zona. "It is quite possibly the finest flipping reel I've ever used. This is not just a shameless plug for a sponsor. It is that good. It has an 8.5:1 gear ratio. It is awesome. For me, the baddest reel on earth."
Strike King ¾-ounce Slither Rig witha 5/0 Trokar flipping hook and a Strike King Rage Tail Menace Grub.
"This set up got me through several shoots this year," said Zona. "It is the ideal flipping presentation. It is compact and efficient. It has the ability to get through heavy cover like a regular compact offering, but also has some bulk as well. This set up has also saved many guys on the Elite Series this year from potential train wrecks. You know it's good when guys not sponsored by the companies involved use it on the Elites."
"I've now seen enough things with my HydroWave to know it makes a difference and it is not a coincidence," said Zona. "Sure, it is not a cure all, but it is certainly very effective, especially when fish are keying on baitfish. I've been in enough boats where it is used and other anglers just say whoa, it is amazing. It is bass fishing voodoo." Zona Claus shares his thanks for 2013 and beyond.
"This is going on my 10th year on television," said Zona. "I'm not a very emotional person, but I was looking at photos over the last 10 years. I've certainly aged. I think it's mostly self-induced. There have been some great highs and some extreme lows, but fans have stuck by me. I truly appreciate everyone joining the ride. It's been a hell of a trip. Hopefully I can say the same thing in another 10 years. Merry Christmas."
